A Collection of New Songs
A Collection of New Songs
composer: Ignatius Sancho
published in London, 1769
ABC transcription by John Chambers, 2020

This is a collection of songs composed by Ignatius Sancho in the 1760s, and transcribed to ABC notation by John Chambers in late 2020. I haven't actually found the book yet. The tunes here are from single pages discovered in online pages about the composer's music. The British Musieum's copy hasn't appeared online anywhere that I can find, as of this date. If you discover a photocopy of it somewhere, could you send me a message saying where it can be found?

See the parent directory for information about the composer. See the Transcription Notes for information about how the tunes were transcribed to ABC notation.

The single-tunes files have names of the form NNN_Title.abc, where NNN is the page number (of an unknown number of pages), The CNS* file(s) contain the songs that I have located so far.

The suffix "_v1" and "_v2" indicate ABC 1.* and ABC 2.* notation. While the tunes in the adjacent MCCD directory rarely need ABC features past the published 1.7 standard, these songs require many of the capabilities of ABC 2.* software. Those tunes are transcribed more accurately in the *_v2.abc version. In any case, you should be prepared to edit the files to fit your group's needs. What you find here is a very early transcription of a repertoire that's not easily available online yet.

If there are *.ps and/or *.pdf files here, they are formatted at a small scale for proofreading, with all the header information displayed, and with margins for printing. Such files are large and will probably disappear soon, so if you like them, you should download a copy. Note that there's a Makefile, so you can easily recreate the .pdf files if you understand Makefiles.
